TRI COUNTY HORSE AND COLT SHOW 29 SEPT 1910:

NEWSPAPER ARTICLE- MIGHT BE 1910

OAKLAND SQUARE: HORSE AND COLT SHOW AND DINNER- 29SEP1910

OAKLAND USED TO TAKE THE HORSE AND COLT SHOW VERY SERIOUSLY- AND PEOPLE FROM MILES AROUND WOULD ATTEND. PEOPLE WOULD BRING ALL KINDS OF LIVESTOCK TO TOWN TO BE JUDGED. PRIZES WERE AWARDED FOR THE BEST IN EACH DIVISION.

THE COLES COUNTY FAIR BEGAN IN 1858- BUT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A LONG HAUL TO CHARLESTON BY HORSE AND BUGGY FOR THE WEEK LONG FAIR. PARIS WOULD HAVE BEEN JUST AS HARD TO ATTEND.
