The Rest of the Story:

The quilt on the left belonged to Mary Jane Coartney and was passed down to her granddaughter Kathy Pardi. The quilt was made by Kathy's great great grandmother Sarah Davis Blake and her 3 daughters- Elnora "Nona" Blake Ferguson, Cleta Blake Coartney and Nellie Blake Lang. When Cleta passed away in 1974 the quilt went to the Wayne and Mary Jane Coartney home. Upon Mary Jane's death in Feb. of this year, the quilt went to her granddaughter, Kathy. The quilt was made before 1904 and has never been used.

The quilt on the right belonged to Fern Hawkins and was passed down to granddaughter Shiela Miller. Shiela is not sure which side of Fern's family it came from. Her dad was a Hunt and her mom was a Foltz. It was made in 1875.
"Shiela and I have always been close. As close as sisters. We've always kind of just said we were.
Anyway she lives about 5 hours away so we get to see each other a few times a year and talk on the phone frequently. She was back in August and she brought up a quilt she had gotten from her Grandma Hawkins'. Said it had been published in a magazine. I told her I had a quilt from my Grandma Coartney that had been in a magazine also.

Well guess what. Since my Grandma saved everything I have the magazine and to our suprise both our quilts were in this magazine and both our Grandma's names were mentioned in the article." from Kathy's blog.

Fern Hawkins died in July 2008 at 95 years old and Mary Jane Coartney died in Febuary of this year at 95 years old. Anyone who knew these older gals knows they probably had a hand in their granddaughters new discovery.
Thank you to Kathy and Shiela for sharing this really wonderful story.
